Turning To Drugs In The Healthcare Field

Many people look at nurses in a professional light. While they do work in a medical setting, there are times when nurses can fall in life and make decisions that can impact their health and the relationships that they have with other people. Sometimes, nurses become addicted to drugs and allow various types of drugs to take over. It’s often easier for nurses to get drugs to use since they work in a medical field. They can easily get prescriptions from friends who are doctors and take prescriptions from the patients they work with each day. Fortunately, there are options for drug rehab for nurses so that they can get the help that they need to function in a professional manner once again.

When you find out that a nurse is struggling with drug addiction, you might wonder what would lead that person down a road that seems like it would be one that someone else would take. Drug addiction knows no boundaries and can impact anyone who has a desire to use drugs of any kind to deal with issues that arise in life. They tend to turn to drugs for the same reasons as other people. These include anxiety, stress while on the job, and dealing with the emotions that are often a part of the daily workload. There are a few reasons why nurses are often at a higher risk than other people when it comes to drug abuse and addiction.

Since nurses work in environments where they deal with patients and the health issues that they face, it’s often a stressful job. Nurses have to be there when someone dies or when someone receives a diagnosis of a life-changing illness. After the long hours at a hospital, nursing facility, or being on-call to cover for someone else, a nurse usually deals with a high amount of stress compared to other positions. Stress is often one of the leading causes of drug addiction in the work place just because of the nature of the things that nurses have to see each day, especially if the nurse works in the emergency room or in an area where there is a higher possibility of seeing death or severe injuries. There are numerous facilities that don’t have enough nurses to care for the patients who are there, which puts added stress on the nurses who do work because they have a larger workload. Patients, doctors, and family members expect nurses to be cheerful when they are working so that they don’t have to worry about their health or the health of someone they love, which is another reason as to why nurses sometimes turn to drugs to deal with the stress associated with working.

Nurses can get drugs a bit easier than other people since they work in the healthcare field. They can find drugs that are often stronger than what people would normally get, especially if they work for a doctor who is willing to write a prescription for any medication that the nurse desires. Many nurses handle drugs each day, making it easy to take a few of the medications that are supposed to be given to patients as they think that no one will notice that a few pills are missing.

When nurses have to work long hours at a time, they often turn to drugs to either help them sleep when they end a shift or to help them stay awake so that they can function while they are at work. Being addicted to drugs doesn’t mean that a nurse has to be addicted to something that is illegal or something that is necessarily bad for the body and that will do damage to the brain like other types of drugs. A nurse can get addicted to caffeine and similar products that some might think of as everyday substances that are consumed. However, when using those substances gets out of hand, it can easily lead to addiction.

Drug rehab is an option for nurses. There are sometimes different facilities that healthcare workers can go to so that they can get the help that they need. While in the rehab center, communication about the job is important as well as talking about some of the situations that arise while on the job so that there are better plans in place for dealing with these occurrences instead of turning to drugs.

Common Causes of Knee Pain from Sports in Children

Although children that play sports aren’t as susceptible to knee pain and other joint problems as adults who engage in these activities, it’s still very common for children that participate in sports like soccer, football, and basketball to experience some type of knee pain due to excessive use of the joints and ligaments surrounding the knee.

There are a large variety of causes of joint pain in children, which can range all the way from minor pain derived from twisting the leg incorrectly, bunion pain from wearing the wrong shoes to a more serious MCL sprain. Whatever the cause, it’s essential for your child to consult a sports podiatrist and receive treatment immediately to ensure that the condition heals quickly and without causing further damage. The following details five of the most common causes of knee pain that children who play sports might encounter.

ACL Sprains

One of the more common types of knee pain from sports involves an ACL sprain, which occurs when the anterior cruciate ligament becomes injured in some way. With ACL sprains, there are three grades that the sprain can be labelled as, ranging from grade one to grade three. A grade three sprain is the most severe ACL sprain and is noted by a complete tear of the ligament.

These sprains are usually caused by a pivoting or twisting movement, which is why such an injury is particularly common among children who are runners, play soccer, or play basketball. Because of the severity of the injury, it typically needs to be treated with ACL reconstruction surgery, which allows for the long-term preservation of the knee and greatly heightens the chances that your child’s knee returns back to the condition it was in before the injury.

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

The patellofemoral pain syndrome is one of the most common types of knee pain present in younger athletes and involves pain that’s located at the front of the knee. This syndrome is usually referred to as runner’s knee and is especially common among children who run a lot in sports like soccer and football. While this condition is usually brought about because of an overuse of the patellofemoral joint, it can also occur if your child’s knee cap receives a direct blow.

Jumper’s Knee

Jumper’s knee, also commonly referred to as patellar tendinitis, is a specific condition that causes pain to the patellar tendon, an area of the knee that’s used commonly in sports. Children who play basketball or volleyball have the highest chance of suffering from jumper’s knee, a condition that results in pain at the front of the knee.

Osgood-Schlatter

Osgood-Schlatter is very similar in nature to jumper’s knee and is a disorder that solely affects children and is most common among young athletes. This condition causes symptoms like soreness, pain, and swelling, and occurs just below the kneecap when the growth plate in the area is irritated. Osgood-Schlatter is most common among children between the ages of 10 and 14.

Dislocated Knee

Whether your child plays a sport like soccer or is signed up for track, a dislocated knee is the most common type of knee pain to look out for. Also referred to as kneecap instability, a dislocated knee typically occurs when the patella is pushed off towards the side of the knee joint, which can happen from a direct impact in this area or a sudden twisting move. In most cases, the best remedy is physical therapy, though other forms of treatment might be necessary to ensure that the patella doesn’t become dislocated in the future.

The next time your child talks to you about pain in their knee, make sure that you see a kids podiatrist right away. It’s also a good idea to have a personal trainer to teach your child the proper way to do every exercise movement to prevent the risks of knee injury!

Medical Marijuana

One of the newest treatment methods to hit the market is something that seems to be highly controversial, despite science backing it up. This treatment method is medical marijuana and the use of both Illinois dispensaries and dispensaries in other places to get this legally into the hands of patients.

What is it used for?

Medical marijuana can be used for a variety of conditions, and more are being added as research support comes through. Overall, marijuana is known as being very relaxing. Naturally, this means that it will help in conditions where patients aren’t very relaxed. For example, patients struggling with extreme anxiety can benefit from this treatment, along with those diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. In Parkinson’s disease, the person experiences tremors that can be calmed through marijuana. Lastly, conditions like depression and autism are also being treated with this in some states.

Ways to Consume it

There are several ways to consume marijuana and receive the healing effects from it. Many people opt to smoke or vape it. This sometimes replaces nicotine use, which offers additional benefits. Others decide to include it into edibles, such as with butter or lollipops. There is no wrong way to consume it as long as you are obtaining it legally from a medical dispensary.

As you can see, the use of Illinois dispensaries can be very beneficial for a lot of patients that don’t otherwise respond to more conventional treatment plans. There are conditions like PTSD and autism that can be highly individualized for the patient, and it makes sense that there is no one size fits all type of treatment. Legal medical marijuana is a great option for these and other patients in order to finally get relief from what their body is putting them through.

Overcoming a Drug Addiction

Drug addictions occur with people of all ages. Illicit and prescription drugs alike prove to be habit forming. They can disrupt your entire life. Learning about the drug rehab centers in Colorado and how they can help you is critical.

Interventions

Not everyone wants to go to a drug rehabilitation center on their own. Often, it requires the intervention of others. If you have loved ones who have staged an intervention or you want to stage one for someone you know, it’s important to find the right center.

Often, hearing the Drug Addiction Statistics and Facts will help to provide understanding. When you hear the cost of substance abuse, it can be an eye-opening experience. The sooner you seek treatment, the sooner you can start living a healthier, happier life.

Personalized Therapies

When you are inside of a rehabilitation center, you will be able to receive personalized therapy. This will generally come in several forms. The first is group therapy. It can be extremely therapeutic to listen to other people and their problems. You can learn that you are not alone. You can hear about the problems that others have encountered and how they have been able to improve on their ways as a result of attending rehab.

Additionally, individual therapy will be provided to you. This is a chance to talk through various aspects of your life. You can learn why you turn to drugs in the first place. If you are suffering from anxiety or depression, a counselor will be able to provide you with assistance. When you go through therapy, it can be a way of understanding more about your drug dependence as well as how to overcome the various obstacles in your life. In some instances, therapy may involve family members you have hurt in the process of your drug addiction. It can be a way of mending relationships so that you have a greater support system once you leave rehab.

Education

Various educational workshops can be provided to you when you’re in a rehab center. Much of this is to show you how to survive without turning to drugs. You can learn about other ways to deal with stress and anxiety that are healthier for you.

Depending on how long you have faced addiction, other education may also be necessary. This includes learning about how to look for a job. You may need to learn how to create a resume as well as a few skills that will help you within the job search. Many who have faced long-term addiction have never held a job because the drugs stand in the way. However, one of the ways for you to integrate back into society without being dependent on drugs is having a way to support yourself.

Avoiding Relapse

One of the most critical ways to prevent relapse is to ensure that the program you go through is personalized. You need it to be created in such a way that it attends to your needs. This is why there are a variety of programs. You can work with a counselor to ensure that the right therapies are chosen. If you cannot connect with the therapy, then it won’t work for you. It could result in a relapse as soon as you are out in the real world again.

When you leave rehab, you’re not completely alone. Throughout the program, you learn how to develop a support system. The people you meet within the center can end up being lifelong friends because they understand what you have gone through. You will have the opportunity to continue therapy as well as group counseling sessions. Various other relapse prevention systems may also be in place for you.

Drug and alcohol abuse can take a toll on the body as well as the relationships that you have. Whether you have suffered with an addiction for months or years, help is available. It is up to you to reach out to get the help from a rehabilitation center. It’s possible to overcome an addiction, though it is going to require hard work on your end to ensure that you can get your life back on track.

Do You Need an Addiction Recovery House?

Are you currently battling an alcohol or drug addiction problem? If this is the case, you need to take the right steps to conquer your dependency on these substances. One of the best ways to do this is to check yourself into a sober living facility. This is also known as an addiction recovery house. These are places that provide a clean and safe environment where addicts can kick their habit by having a structured daily routine. This will make it easier for these people to assimilate back into society and resume a normal life once their rehab is completed. Here are some ways you can find reputable sober housing in your area.

1. Talk to former addicts who have lived in a recovery house while they were going through the rehab process.

You might know a few people who have already been able to kick their drug or alcohol habit. These people might have used an addiction recovery house to help them during their rehab. It would be wise to consult with these people regarding the addiction recovery houses that you should consider. Get the name of the recovery house where they stayed. Are they happy with the treatment they received there? Was the staff courteous and professional? How much did it cost to stay there? Would these people recommend that you use the same recovery house for your own drug or alcohol treatment needs?

2. Call various addiction recovery houses and make appointments to take tours of these facilities.

You should never agree to go to an addiction recovery house without going there and taking a tour. These facilities will have special open houses where potential patients will be able to take a tour and meet the members of the staff. You will be able to get a good idea of the quality of treatment at each facility when you take a tour.

3. Find out what forms of payment that the addiction recovery house will accept.

You need to determine if the recovery house will accept your current insurance plan. If not, find out how much you will need to pay.

3 Simple Skin Care Tips

Taking care of your skin is important. Thoughtfully caring for your skin means that it will be more likely to age gracefully with you. Now, if you have already practiced the following skin care tips and you find that your skin is still not in the state you would like, consult with a professional. A dermatologist in denver, for example, will be able to determine if you require more in-depth procedures like injectables, laser services or surgery.

The following skin care tips are simple, budget-friendly and benefit all skin types.

Hydration

The consensus remains that everyone should consume eight glasses of water a day because proper hydration is beneficial for your body’s functions and skin. Staying hydrated means that you are less likely to experience cramps during exercise while helping your body function optimally. In terms of skin, in study after study, respondents continue to report that consistently drinking enough water gives them a radiant glow. More importantly, water helps your body and skin get rid of toxins, especially if you consume alcohol or smoke.

If you cannot reach the recommended water consumption threshold, eating fruits and vegetables helps. Balancing your water intake with fruits and vegetables means you will also reap the benefits of their natural vitamins.

Cleansing

Whether you wear makeup or not, all skin types benefit from daily cleansing. If you do wear makeup, be good to your skin by removing it completely before you go to bed, each time. Makeup will clog your pores and clogged pores can act as a time bomb for unwanted blemishes.

Even if you are not a consistent makeup wearer, cleansing your skin daily helps you remove oil build-up and the layer of environmental toxins that sit on your face while you are going about your day-to-day activities.

Sun Exposure

Where you live determines the amount of sun exposure your skin will receive, but if you live in an area where cloud cover is the norm, the sun’s rays can still have negative effects on your skin. So, when you venture out to enjoy a hike, run errands or commute to work, consider wearing skin products that contain some percentage of sunscreen, a hat, and when weather permits, a pair of sunglasses.

Healthy skin leads to a confident appearance. Care for your skin by remaining hydrated, cleansing it daily and limiting its exposure to the sun.

Prove the Negligence of Your Clinician and Seek Compensation for Surgery Burns

There are several reasons why you could end up with skin burns after a procedure or surgery. It could be as a result of the type of equipment used. It might have been below standard or should have been repaired before use. Due to the failure of the company to have it checked, it didn’t function well during the procedure.

It could also be due to the negligence of the clinician. For laser hair removal, for instance, anyone can do it. You don’t have to be a cosmetic surgeon to do the job. With lack of practice, experience or focus, anything could go wrong during the process.

The aftermath

Due to the incident, you might end up with varying degrees of skin burns. It could be as simple as skin itching or it could lead to lifelong scars that can’t be removed. Aside from the physical pain, it could also lead to emotional problems. Your skin is precious. You take care of your entire body. In fact, this might have been the reason why you went to a beauty clinic in the first place. For some people, their beauty is essential for their job. If your job or quality of life is affected because of such a procedure, don’t hesitate in asking for burn compensation.

You could end up struggling financially. Therefore, you need to make a claim so that you can move forward with your life. You might also have to undergo another surgery or procedure to correct the problem. It could be extremely expensive.

Get a lawyer

It does not have to be a major problem before you ask a lawyer to help you with your case. If hair was removed from the wrong area, it is considered negligence. If you received burns in one area, or many, you may also seek compensation.

Whatever the scenario is, you need a legal expert by your side to help you. This might be a tough legal battle. You could not do it on your own. An experienced compensation lawyer will be able to tell you what to do, and will know how successful burn injury claims are achieved.

There are even legal firms that offer their services for free, at first. You only need to pay them if you win your case. This should make you feel more confident about continuing to fight for your rightful compensation.

Again, none of what happened was your fault. It wasn’t your decision to go to a beauty clinic with incompetent staff, knowingly – so don’t be afraid to keep fighting even if it is a long and emotionally challenging process.

Seeking a Good Drug Treatment Center

Checking yourself into a holistic drug rehab Miami could completely change your life. You need to seriously consider the decisions that you are making now. Your drug addiction has gotten out of control. You can no longer function as a normal human being. You have stopped being a productive member of society. Therefore, you need help from highly trained professionals who have assisted many people who are just like you. Where should you get your treatment? This is a crucial question that you will need to answer. Not all of the rehab facilities out there will give you the same type of care. This is why great care on your part must be taken to locate the perfect treatment facility for your particular addiction. The following tips will make this big decision much easier.

1. Look at online reviews that have been given to many drug treatment centers.

You will be able to locate many very informative reviews of drug treatment centers if you spend some time looking around online. Past patients want to help out addicts who are in the same position they were in before. They can do this by writing detailed reviews of the drug treatment center they went to. They will be very honest about all of the positives and negatives of the particular facility. You will be able to discover lots of useful info that the employees of the facility would never be willing to tell you. Keep notes while you are reading the reviews. Then you can go back to these notes later on to help you narrow down your list of facilities to choose from. Read reviews for the same facility that were written by many different people to get a wide range of opinions.

2. Has the drug treatment center been in business for a long period of time?

This is something that you need to give some serious consideration to. You should try to avoid drug treatment facilities that have just opened. This is not to say that those places will not offer quality treatment. However, you would be much better off going to a facility that has a long track record of providing treatment to drug addicts. Ideally, you should only consider checking yourself into a drug treatment facility that has been open for at least eight years. It means something when a facility stays open that long. This proves the people at this facility know what they are doing.

3. Take a tour of the drug treatment centers you are interested in the most.

You need to see a Miami detox center with your own eyes before you can decide if you are going to receive your treatment there. Never rely on the photos on a drug treatment center’s website to base your decision on. These photos can often be misleading because they will only be showing you the best aspects of each facility. Going to the facility to take a tour will allow you to explore all of the buildings and see exactly where you will be living if you decide to go there. You will also have the opportunity to chat with the people who will be working with you on a daily basis. You can get an explanation of the treatment schedule that the counselors will implement. This will allow you to get a good idea of the quality of treatment you will receive.

4. Find out if your current health insurance plan will cover the cost of your drug treatment.

You will need to learn how much of the cost of treatment that you will be responsible for. Not all insurance providers will be accepted by some drug treatment centers. Therefore, you will need to contact the facility and get a list of insurance providers they are willing to work with. You will obviously be limited to drug treatment centers that will accept your insurance coverage. Make sure you have enough money to pay for the amount of the fee that your insurance will not cover.

5. Get info about the aftercare program that the facility offers to their patients.

An aftercare program will assist you in getting back into your regular life after your stay in the rehab facility has ended. Drug treatment facilities have their aftercare programs set up in different ways. Ask for a specific breakdown of what you should expect. You will most likely be assisted by a counselor for several weeks after your time in treatment ends.

Facing Opioid’s Deadly Grip

My daughter’s addition was really causing me lots of sleepless nights.  I didn’t call it that at first.  I bought her story that she was just suffering from the lingering effects of the injuries she had suffered when she broke her collarbone, and arm in a terrible car accident.  She said she still needed relief and that I shouldn’t worry.  She just needed a little more money so she could get something to help her sleep. I struggled with helping her and not enabling her.  Then I got the call I feared most.  She had overdosed.

Now those nightly news reports of the staggering number of deaths in the U.S. hit home.  It wasn’t just “those people” anymore – suddenly, it was me.  Us. My solidly middle-class life was turned upside down.  There was one consolation – she was alive, but just barely, and had been air-lifted to a town nearby.  I just had to get to her.

Fortunately, I had used a Groupon for a vacation to the Bahamas and knew I could shop the site to find a place to stay.  And sure enough, there was a Groupon deal for Extended Stay Hotels that I could use right away.  The easy to use Groupon and the caring and supportive customer service I received from Extended Stay made the difficult trip so much easier.

It was a relief to finally get to the hospital and see her.  Once that was over, I returned to my room and made a quick meal.  I found comfort in being able to cook and eat what I needed to nourish me.  I even found washing the dishes soothing.  And the room had everything I needed to get back to work on the proposal I had to submit in a few days.

America is going through a drug crises and facing a record number of overdoses this year.  Many of these overdoses are from the abuse of opioids, a powerful painkiller.  Research shows that many people become dependent on the pills after being subscribed them after surgery.  Some can’t stomach the medicinal effects and stop using opioids as quickly as possible.   Others continue using them because of the euphoria they feel.   As the person seeks the high, their body starts to tolerate the dosage and they need more and more to achieve that same euphoric feeling.  Unfortunately, my daughter was one of those who chased the high.

If was a difficult period, but she made it through.  Her near death experience has changed her determination to beat the disease.  And I’m learning the boundaries I need to respect.  Together, we’ll see this through.

What Is Alcohol Neuropathy?

People may recognize the action of consuming an alcoholic beverage to “calm the nerves,” but people may not recognize the dangers of alcohol neuropathy. The generalized term, neuropathy is used to describe issues with the nerves. Alcohol neuropathy is more probable in those with alcoholism and can remain prevalent after an individual receives treatment for alcoholism.

Alcohol neuropathy occurs when a person drinks obsessively over a long period of time and the nerves become damaged. Once the nerves are damaged, they are then unable to transfer signals to other parts of the body.

The peripheral nervous system is the area mainly affected by alcohol neuropathy and controls the motor/sensory skills.  This nervous system consists of:

  • Nerves and ganglia
  • Other portions of the brain
  • The spinal cord

While the exact cause of alcohol neuropathy is unknown, there are two factors found to contribute to the development of it. The first factor is in the fact that alcohol poisons the nerves over time. The second factor contributing to the development of alcohol neuropathy is a vitamin and mineral deficiency from those who struggle with alcoholism.

Nearly half of all people who abuse alcohol heavily, end up with some form of neuropathy. It usually takes about 10 years of heavy alcohol abuse for an individual to develop alcohol neuropathy.  However, treatment options are available for those in need.

Identifying the symptoms

Along with being a constant and heavy drinker, there are other symptoms to identify if an individual has alcohol neuropathy. The symptoms include:

  • Numbness in the extremities
  • Abnormal sensations
  • Heat intolerance
  • Impotence (may occur)
  • Vomiting and nausea
  • Muscle weakness
  • Cramping, aches and spasms

In more severe cases, the damage branches to the autonomic nerves, which control internal body functions such as urinating and bowel movements. In the severe cases, people may experience incontinence, urinary leakage, feeling like the bladder isn’t completely emptied and difficulty starting urination.

People may not realize what they are experiencing, the symptoms generally start out mild and worsen as the alcohol abuse continues. The symptoms can greatly effect one’s quality of life and cause permanent damage to the body. A diagnosis of alcohol neuropathy will involve a vitamin blood analysis, electromyography (EMG) or a thyroid function test. From the diagnosis and testing, a medical professional can develop a treatment.

Possible treatment options

While treatment for alcohol neuropathy exists, it is much more effective when the condition is caught early on. Treatment for alcohol neuropathy consists of preventing injuries, managing symptoms and maximizing abilities.

Physicians strive for non-narcotic treatments, but often prescribe the lowest dosage of narcotics possible to help control the pain; reducing the risk of dependency. People receiving treatment for alcohol neuropathy may also attend physical therapy, while using splints and compression stockings. For those with bladder problems, diuretic may be used. In the severe cases, catheterization may be needed. Vitamin and mineral supplements can be administered to correct any underlying nutritional deficiencies and prevent further degeneration.

Even though most of the symptoms are treatable, patients with alcohol neuropathy do not always respond well to treatment. For these people, the issues of alcohol neuropathy may plague them for the duration of his or her life.

Drug detox centers with a program for alcoholics can treat the alcoholism early on in order to prevent neuropathy. These centers equip the patient with the skills necessary to continue a sober life after the treatment program.
