Learn Electrocardiography from a Reputed Healthcare Training Institute

ID-100162272Electrocardiography (commonly known in abbreviated form ECG) is an important diagnostic tool (it is also an important tool for monitoring as well as for knowing prognosis of various heart problems such as heart attack or myocardial infarction or MI) in cardiac healthcare.  Electrocardiography is measurement or recording of transthoracic electrical activity of heart and its interpretation for a period of time. The recording or measurement of electrical activity is detected by electrodes (known as ‘leads’), which are placed over the skin at various points across the chest. The electrode/leads are attached to a machine and this procedure is a non-invasive technique.

What are the interpretations that can be done using ECG?

Electrocardiography can measure heart rate, regularity or health rate or rhythm of heart, size of heart, position of different chambers of heart, presence of any damage in heart as a result of heart attack. ECG can also detect presence of artificial devices such as a pacemaker. EGC is also useful in recording the effect of any drug/medication on heart. Read more…

Going High-tech On Hair Removal and Age Spots Treatment

Laser hair removal is widely considered as the most effective method of its kind today. Here’s what you need to know about the high-tech procedure.

Move over tweezing, shaving and waxing! Laser hair removal is the latest technique that has men and women raving about its exceptional results and reasonable costs.  Indeed, its benefits far outweigh its costs, even the minor side effects, so no wonder that it’s among our most popular services here at http://www.skindeepaesthetics.com.au

Laser technology is also effective in the reduction of age spots, which are usually caused by sun damage and natural aging. Aside from the reduction of the dark spots on skin, the procedure may also result in younger-looking skin. Again, it’s a popular service in our clinic, especially for people whose age spots are getting in the way of their confidence and their appearance.

Benefits of Laser Procedure

The lasers used in the removal of unwanted hair and the reduction of age spots have been specifically designed for medical uses. These aren’t the industrial lasers used in the manufacture of commercial products from cars to robots so these are safe for use on humans. Of course, the safety of these medical-grade lasers lie in the hands of licensed dermatologists with appropriate training.

When used properly, these lasers have the following benefits in comparison with other methods:

  • Precision

Lasers can be programmed to target selected areas only so that the surrounding skin remains undamaged. For example, only the hair around the bikini area will be removed or only the age spots around your chest will be reduced with pinpoint accuracy.

  • Speed

Lasers can remove unwanted hair in the fraction of a second that it takes them to produce a single pulse. Depending on the area being treated, it can take anywhere from under a minute (e.g., upper lip) to an hour (e.g., legs and back).  While a few sessions will be necessary to achieve the desired results, you will think of these sessions as a minor interruption in your schedule because of their speed.

  • Predictability

Lasers provide relatively predictable results, too. Your dermatologist can give a nearly accurate number of sessions before your desired results can be seen and enjoyed. For permanent hair loss, for example, you may require three to seven sessions for your bikini area and legs.

Laser age spots and hair removal procedures are obviously more expensive than buying razors, tweezers, and electric shavers as well as anti-aging creams. But you will be buying them over and over again because your unwanted body and face hair as well as age spots will still grow back.

Over time, the actual cost of buying these products coupled with the hours spent on using them will add up. You will then realize that you have spent precious dollars on temporary, if not ineffective, solutions to your cosmetic issues.

In contrast, laser treatments involve payments of higher professional fees for a few times but the exceptional results are worth it!

How to Prepare for Laser Procedure

The first and most important step is getting the best from laser hair removal and age spots reduction is to find a qualified dermatologist. You don’t want to risk your skin to the ministrations of a quack doctor, especially considering that lasers have their risks like burns in the hands of unqualified people.

Before you can qualify for the procedure, your dermatologist will ask relevant questions including:

  • Your medical history including illnesses, injuries and medications
  • Your expectations especially the risks and results (i.e., lasers will not be effective for all cases)
  • Your treatment and payment plans (i.e., laser procedures on skin aren’t usually covered by medical insurance unless these meet certain requirements)

Before the procedure photos will also be taken for comparison purposes after the procedures, as well as for long-term reviews of your case.

Let’s assume that you and your dermatologist agreed that you will undergo laser hair removal or laser age spots reduction. You must strictly comply with the pre-procedure instructions so that the results can be maximized and the risks minimized.

  • Stay out of the sun for up to six weeks before your scheduled procedure, although your doctor can also work within a four-week period. You should also avoid using tanning products because these can increase the risk of side effects including the unwanted lightening of the skin being treated.
  • Avoid hair removal methods that will disturb the hair follicles, such as waxing, plucking and electrolysis. But you can continue shaving your hair because it will not adversely affect your hairs’ follicles and shafts.

You should also avoid using products on your skin that may interfere with the removal of the age spots. Your doctor may also recommend avoidance of tanning products and booths since these will increase the risk of side effects after the procedure.

What to Expect During Laser Procedure

The pre-procedure steps will vary depending on the laser procedure chosen in your case. In terms of laser hair removal, these steps can be summarized as follows:

  • Your hair will be trimmed to just a few millimeters above your skin’s surface.
  • You and your doctor will wear eye protection goggles for safety reasons.
  • You may request for a topical anesthetic so that any discomfort during the treatment can be minimized.
  • Your doctor will press a handheld wand to your skin and activate it. The laser beam passes through your skin’s surface layer to your hair follicles thus damaging the latter.

You may feel a slight stinging sensation followed by a cool feeling when the laser instrument passes over your skin but these are tolerable.  You may be on the table, so to speak, for several minutes to an hour depending on your hair’s condition and the size of the area being treated.

These steps are also similar to the ones used for age spots reduction.  The main differences lie in the type of laser used, which your doctor will discuss with you during consultations.

After each procedure, you will likely notice swelling, redness and discomfort in the treatment area. You don’t have to worry about these side effects because these are minor and temporary (i.e., fade away after 24 hours), as well as can be resolved with home remedies. You can apply ice to the treatment area and take pain medications, for example.

After the recommended number of sessions, you will see that indeed lasers are excellent treatment methods for removing unwanted hair and age spots! You will feel and look better and that’s the most important aspect of the method!

Sexercise: Sex and Serious Sporting:

Which should come first? Is there a relationship between both? Would having sex before heading to the gym affect my performance in a good or a bad way? Should I avoid sex before tomorrow’s match? These and many other questions may cross the minds of those obsessed with practicing sports either part of living a healthy life or moreover professional athletes and their coaches. That level of obsession in turn raises a dilemma among sport fans.

Ancient medicine schools suggested a positive effect of abstaining from sex on body performance. A myth that has been adopted by many athletes along history. For example, you would find professional boxers as Clay pausing romance for several weeks before an important fight. Similarly, a major league soccer player’s sex life would go on hold during training camps and during competitions. On the other hand, we find schools encouraging the opposite believing that sex close to sports had a positive effect on performance. Many famous American football players and serious martial art fighters have confessed during interviews that their rule was having all the sex they could right before matches.

Every school has its own theory, nothing to do with weakening the knees or getting rid of body toxins of course. Those supporting abstinence see that sexual frustration due to abstinence may not only conserve energy but raise the level of aggression thus endurance of an athlete as well. Others of the same group may relate sex to a state of exhaustion and lack of concentration in case sleep routine was disturbed, not to mention the risk of minor injuries as sprains especially if matters had gone a bit rough under the sheets. Some experts even blame sex for altering heart rates of athletes. However, the group encouraging sex before sports sees that sexual frustration may actually be harmful and distracting to an athlete supporting the notion that regular sex before sports relaxes the mind and soul which in turn helps in keeping a sharp focus. Also some claim that sex causes a surge in blood testosterone levels which is an important anabolic hormone responsible for muscle bulk in addition to our sense of well-being.

While several investigations attempt to solve this dilemma, research stands short of supporting any concrete effect for sex on body performance or stamina. Hence, available data to date, relies mainly on experts’ opinions awaiting further studies. Until then, which theory we support may remain according to our personal preference and acquaintance of each one’s body. No one can argue that a healthy life style comprising a balanced diet of healthy ingredients and an adequate amount of rest and activity is always the key to optimum performance and well-being.

Therapy Culture and Practice with Older Adults

The increasing number of people living longer lives is a cause of worldwide debate over how to enable those senior citizens aging with dignity. Instead of seeing them as looming social and economic burden, it is important to provide them care and understanding. How we care for our elderly citizens is a reflection of who we are as a society.

Image Therapy Culture 01

In a not so distant past, people took it upon themselves to take care of their aging parents, and this custom continues in some of the traditional societies. Today, not only that people do not have enough time to do so, but they are also aware that senior citizens require much more knowledge and a professional approach and treatment.

General Knowledge about Aging

To be able to provide appropriate care to elderly citizens, it is important to be aware of how aging influences them, both physically and mentally. It is inevitable that aging brings with it the need to accommodate to numerous physical changes and functional limitations. Furthermore, different development of social and psychological changes, have a significant impact on how will the person accept the aging process.

Some of the normal biological changes accompanying aging are the ones impacting sensory acuity, body composition, performance capacity, immunological responses, etc.

Clinical Issues Accompanying Older People

Practitioners and therapists must realize that most of the older adults do not face any clinical issues and generally have good mental health. Still, certain percentage (20-22%) meets criteria for mental disorder. Whether they already have a history of mental illness or they develop certain condition as they are growing old, it is crucial to give an appropriate therapeutic response to all of the symptoms.

Image Therapy Culture 02

Some psychological issues tend to present with an emphasis on somatic rather than emotional symptoms (late-life depression, anxiety, etc.), so it is essential to keep a close eye for those clues. Senior citizens living with dementia may experience coexisting psychological symptoms (anxiety, depression, paranoia, etc.). The best way to respond to them is being familiar with symptoms presentations and prevailing mental disorders in late life.

Communicating with Older Adults

Sometimes, we have a tendency of stereotyping older people, and we rely on those stereotypes to reduce any uncertainties regarding communication with them. However, if that is the only thing we rely on then we are risking of being misunderstood or even thoughtless. What to do then?

First, you must recognize your own stereotypes, and then acknowledge that they do not have to be accurate. Ask thoughtful questions, but avoid patronizing with your speech. This kind of speech is viewed negatively by most of the elderly people, because it is disrespectful and reminds of “baby talk”. Pay attention to your nonverbal communication signals too.

Caring for Older People

Taking care of the elderly people requires a lot of patience and respect, but it is also something that should be thought. Medical practitioners are a valuable asset for training and educating new professionals, volunteers, and other team members and persons who are nursing seniors. They can also convey their knowledge to family members who have taken upon themselves to care for their senior family member.

Image Therapy Culture 03

There is also a possibility of attending aged care course designed to achieve the same goals. As for the professional caregivers, they are encouraged to pursue continuous education and improvement in order to enhance their competence and keep up with the ongoing changes in medicine and psychology. It is up to us, as a society, to produce more and more professionals to do so and provide them with all the necessary knowledge to be the best they can be in their jobs.

Auditory Processing Assessment Will Assess Your Child Need for Hearing Aid

The problems of auditory deficiency in children are increasing by the day. As the world moves on faster, there are certain ill-effects of the whole civilizing process and children might be born of this deficiency or acquire it when they come into this world. As the auditory faculty is essentially linked with their overall mental growth it is extremely important for an auditory processing assessment. This assessment will prove to be great in determining whether your child is deficient in any area of his or her brain that is related to hearing. When a child is enrolled into school and complains of not being able to follow classes well and comes back with jumbled notes then he might be suffering from reduced hearing. This assessment will tell the doctors whether your child requires a hearing aid or some other special training. It might be useless blaming your child if he or she is inattentive in the class room. It might be way beyond their controls.

Conditions Pre and After Birth Which Might Result In Hearing Loss:

  • Someone else in the family might be suffering from it. There might be a general tendency if there is a genetic problem.
  • Some sort of infection before the birth might have resulted in subsequent hearing loss for the baby.
  • There might be neurological problems or disorders in the child which might have affected the auditory nerve.
  • Deformities result in strained nerves as well. If there is a deformity near a child’s head then his ears might get affected resulting in hearing loss.
  • If a baby suffers from jaundice just after he or she was born it might result in the yellowing of his or her skin leading to subsequent hearing deficiencies.
  • Any form of head injury to the baby or any injury to the mother before birth causes hearing loss as well.
  • Infections resulting in the accumulation of puss in the ears for a long period of time might harm the eardrum too.
  •  Medicines which might have been toxic to the auditory health of the baby can result in hearing loss.

How Is Hearing Loss Detected Right After Birth?

Your child is given a hearing test right after he or she is born. If he or she does not pass the test then a second try is made. Upon failure in that test also the doctor refers you to a specialist for further tests.

Further Tests to Assess the Hearing Condition of Your Child:

An auditory processing assessment can include the following tests. These tests can be conducted within three months of age. They are:

The Auditory Brainstem Response Test or ABR:

This one will measure the responses of your child to the sound through electrode sensors. These are just taped to the side of the brain so that when an electrical wave passes through the child’s brain it is easy for the sensors to detect the motion. Of course, the child should have a completely quiet brain, necessarily sleeping.

Otoacoustic Emissions Test or OAE:

This test is done to make sure that your infant’s ears reflect the sounds thus completing the hearing process. A sound of low decibel is entered through a probe placed into the infant’s ear canal. If the resultant echo comes back then the infant does not have permanent hearing loss. If it does not then he or she does.

Tympanometry Test:

It is a test done to check whether the whole system from the eardrum to the middle ear and the outer one is functioning properly. It might be possible that he or she has a slight defect in any of the parts or has fluid inside which can be treated.

For more details, you can search through the reliable online portals, to get more information about auditory processing assessment.

A quick fix is fine, and you’ll enjoy your new body for your week away in the sun but a lifestyle overhaul will make you feel even better. 1. Set realistic goals

Do set yourself a challenge but don’t be unrealistic about it as you’ll only set yourself up for failure and you’ll ultimately feel deflated. It’s important that you monitor your progress not only to see where you’re heading but to see how far you’ve come.

  1. Eat regular meals

All too often people will skip meals in a bid to lose weight, it simply won’t work! Instead eat regularly throughout the day as this will burn calories at a faster rate. Eating wholesome, nutritious meals will also help to banish those cravings for sugary snacks.

  1. Don’t give yourself a ban

Saying ‘I can no longer eat chocolate’ will just make you crave it even more. Instead, consume it as a treat or when you’ve achieved one of your set goals. You could also look into healthier options of your favourite guilty snack, for example dark chocolate with at least 70% cacao is much better for you than milk chocolate so why not try this option? Chocolate used to be my downfall, but now I limit myself to a maximum of two squares of dark chocolate per day and this satisfies my cravings. Read more…

Here are the common faults and mistakes that everyone does when they’re attempting to trim down fat and are believed to be linked with reports of negative side effects .

Overdosing on protein

Protein is significant, but if you get too much of it, the extra you get is being kept as fat as per health experts. And in contrary to the famous brands of protein shakes and bars’ claims, these items can contain very high sugar and fat. As per health experts, women must get about 46 grams of protein a day.

Sparing on veggies

Many of us lacks veggie intake versus the suggested 2.5 cups daily. This is according to health experts. Nutritionists suggest making sure to eat some into every meal, whether it’s cut tomatoes on your a.m. toast or cabbage on your turkey sandwich.

Most juice increases blood sugar, so your body makes more insulin. You’ll get starving and overindulge later according to studies. One should always remember to get in protein and fiber, such as eggs and whole-grain bread. Read more…

Start Your Day With HIIT

ID-10036159This article is brought to you by health insurance provider Freedom Health Insurance.

You want to burn calories and lose weight, but don’t want to work out any more than you have to, right? Then High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) might be a good option for you! This type of workout is an enhanced form of interval training and will help take your fitness regimen to a new level without spending load of extra time. The secret to this type of training is the combination of maximum intensity exercise interspersed with longer periods of low to moderate exercise.  Imagine pushing yourself beyond the very max of your exercise zone for a short time, then keeping up your heart rate by doing a lighter bit of exercise.

The beauty of HIIT is that it can help increase the amount of calories that you burn because it lengthens the amount of time that it takes for your body to recuperate after working out.  It also helps improve your endurance and increases your potential to burn more fat.  The most effective part of HIIT is that it makes you push yourself to the complete max for a short time, rather than keeping your heart rate up for a longer period of time. For example, when you first start out running, run as fast as you can for one minute, then walk for two minutes.  Repeat this interval five times for a 15 minute workout. In these short 15 minutes, you are beginning to blast away fat.    Because this workout is very intense, you should be sure to gradually build up your strength so you don’t injure yourself or damage your muscles.
