Ending The Crack Addiction Cycle

Crack is an inexpensive, highly addictive form of cocaine that is sold n crystal form. The crystal “rocks” can be heated and smoked to bring on an intense, very fast “high,” that usually lasts only a short time (about fifteen minutes). The intense euphoria that smoking crack brings on makes it a highly addictive recreational drugs, which is why crack detox is recommended for anyone who becomes hooked on this highly addictive drug.

Crack immediately changed the drug culture in the US in the 1980s. Crack is cheaper and easier to obtain than pure cocaine. The market for crack was very profitable for drugs dealers in the 1980s, as it was easy to sell quickly, and buyers who were quickly hooked on the drug kept coming back for more. Crack is an opiate and highly addictive. The great high this drug brings on is always followed by an intense crash that leaves the user feeling utterly hopeless and depressed. The only way to get out of the crash that follows the high is to immediately use the drug again, which once again leads into a terrible loop of compulsive drug use that can can quickly wear a user down. People who use crack chronically can find that they become so hopelessly caught up in using the drug they lose a connection to the rest of their life, in tragic ways. Some people find they are quickly unable to continue with their normal life, and stop working and functioning as part of society. In these tragic instances, crack users often hit bottom and become unable to do much of anything except find their next hit of the drug.

Knowing How To Manage Withdrawals From Drugs

The danger of using opioids like crack cocaine or other highly addictive drugs is that the body can quickly develop a tolerance to the drug’s effect on the brain. Opioid drugs have an effect on the pleasure centers of the brain, flooding it with incredibly pleasurable feelings. Over time, more and more of the drug is needed to bring on this same feeling of a “high,” which is why drug users soon begin compulsively using the drug to bring on the same intensity of feeling. Once the drug wears off after the “high,” however, the crash back to reality can be incredibly hard to deal with. and so, the user goes back to chase after another high with yet another hit of the drug, and a vicious cycle of drug abuse continues.

One of the horrors of drug addiction, especially to a powerful drug like crack cocaine, is the physical reality of withdrawal. Withdrawal symptoms can be harrowing to experience, and in some cases, life-threatening. Symptoms of withdrawal will come on quickly once an addict stops using a drug. These symptoms can include sweating, fever, convulsions, vomiting, seizures and hallucinations. The seriousness of these withdrawal symptoms cannot be underplayed, and it’s a big reason why addicts keep using their drug of choice compulsively. For some addicts, however, a moment may come when they feel they have “hit bottom,” and feel compelled to seek help. It’s at this point that treatment from a reputable crack detox center can make all the difference.

Entering Detox

When a user enters a detox center that specializes in helping users withdraw from crack, they will initially be given a personal assessment of their situation. A treatment plan will be created that will start with physical detox to rid their body of the drug. The detox process will be monitored by an experienced healthcare professional who will oversee the withdrawal at all times, to ensure the client’s safety. Once their body had been rid of drugs, they will take time to recover and then begin a treatment program that includes counseling and other therapeutic activities that will help them engage with life as a sober person.

Once the detox and therapy process have concluded, the client may be advised to continue their recovery by joining an ongoing Twelve-Step group, and also by signing up to live in a sober living facility. The most important thing, at this point, is for the user to realize that sobriety is an ongoing process that must be engage on a daily basis. The hope is that by going through detox and counseling in supportive and safe setting, they will have a start towards a new life that is safe, stable and sober.
