Special Health Benefits of Green Tea

ID-100153192The green tea is special for many reasons. There are several ingredients in green tea which can not be found in ordinary tea which we commonly drink. There are several studies which were conducted on the health benefits of green tea and most of the studies have concluded with a positive note about the health benefits of green tea. Green tea was being used in China for last few thousand years for it benefits in almost anything from depression to sleeplessness.

Green tea is particularly rich in antioxidants and one of the richest sources of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which is a strong antioxidant. The powerful anti-oxidant EGCG have enormous health benefit by causing inhibition of cancer cell growth and in many cases it can even damage the cancer cells without causing any harm to the normal tissue. EGCG can also lower the level of bad cholesterol i.e. LDL or low density lipoprotein in blood, which is responsible for most of the cardiovascular problems which are associated with smoking and intake of high fat diet, especially saturated fats of animal origin. The high concentration of epigallocatechin gallate in green teal also prevents abnormal formation of blood clot which is responsible for the cardiovascular problems such as heart attack. 

Now the question is, why the green tea has many health benefits in compare to oolong, or black teas, although all come from same source (Camellia sinensis)? The answer is the way green tea is processed. Green tea is processed by steaming which preserve the EGCG content of tea leaves and black tea is processed by fermenting the tea leaves which cause EGCG to convert to other chemical with little or no health benefits.
