Strangest Allergic Reactions

Image allegic reactions

Allergies are sometimes tough to live with. They vary from the mild ones – sneezing and runny nose, to others which can be quite severe and result in dizziness, stomach cramps and difficulties in breathing. They can also be caused by various things, either by some particles in the air or food, or through skin contact. Whatever the cause or result, the best thing is to have a medical kit at hand or visit your doctor.

Swollen Tongue

People who suffer from hay fever, have to worry about other things besides the allergens found in the air. Various vegetables and fruits contain the protein that is similar to that found in hay pollen. Such fruits and vegetables can trigger allergic reactions and result in itchiness, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue and throat. When this condition occurs, your immune system recognizes that protein and identifies it to one found in the air pollen. Moreover, this allergic reaction can be quite dangerous if you are not well informed about which fruits and vegetables contain that protein, and can result in anaphylactic shock and even death.

Red Bum Condition

The Baboon Syndrome is one strange, but common allergy among people. Usually, it is caused by being exposed to certain medications, metals and herbs or plants, and it results in a bright red rash on the bum. This uncomfortable, but not life threatening condition can appear on the genitals, perianal region or inner thighs and it is itchy and painful. It is usually caused by exposure to metals like mercury, nickel and gold, but it has been shown that even antibiotics and antibacterials taken orally, intravenously or applied on the skin can trigger this reaction.

Dizziness Caused by Phone

Today, we are surrounded by technology and various devices, such as cell phones, flat screen TVs and mobile devices which expose us to the electromagnetic field (EMF) at the low frequency. However, even though the frequency is low, there have been cases of people who were sensitive to EMF. This condition is called electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) and people often feel dizzy, nauseated and have headaches and problems with sleep if they are exposed to electronic devices for some time. Whether EMS is an allergic reaction to electronic devices or not, people have divided opinions. Some believe such devices do cause pain and muscle twitching, while research has not yet shown any plausible results.

Skin Reaction to Tattoos

Tattoos are beautiful, but the allergies may spoil all the fun. A few studies have reported that people who got permanent tattoos have developed some strange growths on their skin. In all of the studies it has turned out that people developed skin tumor. After analyzing a few cases, the researchers found that the red ink in tattoos triggers the growth of tumors, because the skin recognizes it as a foreign substance and the immune system reacts. Besides this severe condition, tattoos also may result in skin inflammations, dermatitis, granulomas and other allergic reactions. The best possible way to treat or prevent such allergic reactions is to avoid the red ink or undergo tattoo removal procedures and not risk having any problems.

Can Chapped, Cracked Feet and Hands Cause Long-Term Harm?

In dry air, particularly during winter, it can be hard to keep hands and feet soft and supple. Dermatitis, ashy skin, or even dry, cracked hands and feet are all common skin conditions that can be triggered or worsened by a lack of humidity in the air. Dehydrated skin doesn’t just look unpleasant, it can feel itchy, painful, or even begin to bleed. If left untreated, it may even result in serious health problems. Fortunately, dry cracked feet and hands can be easily treated at home.

What causes dry skin?

Skin is normally protected by sebum, a natural oil that helps protect it and maintain its moisture levels. Some areas of the body, like the face, naturally produce more sebum than others. When skin is subjected to extreme conditions, it may lose moisture and become dehydrated. This causes the topmost layers of skin to dry out, die, and eventually flake off. Dry skin is usually caused by environmental situations, but it can occasionally be a result of diabetes, poor circulation, or a reaction to medication.

Is dry skin dangerous in the long run?

If skin dries out to the point of cracking, it can cause some long term problems. Skin serves as a barrier against bacteria and viruses; cracked feet and hands mean this barrier has been broken. If cracked, bleeding skin isn’t appropriately treated, it can become infected and allow bacteria to spread throughout the body. If cracked hands or feet are accompanied by hot, red, tender areas on the arms or legs, it’s important to visit a doctor promptly– these may be signs of a dangerous condition called cellulitis.

How can cracked skin be prevented?

The best way to prevent dry, cracked skin is by remembering to moisturize after showering or bathing. Soaking hands and feet allows them to absorb moisture, but also strips away some of their natural oils. This makes it important to use gentle, natural skin care products while bathing and to apply lotions or balms immediately afterward. These help skin retain moisture and stay soft, supple, and healthy.

How can cracks be treated?

Treatment is very similar to prevention, with a few subtle differences. It’s a good idea to visit an eco shop for natural products that help prevent infection, as well as seeking out extra-strength skin softeners. Cracked skin should be handled like any other wound– cleaned thoroughly, treated with an anti-infective, kept clean, and monitored for signs of infection. If properly treated, cracked feet and hands should heal without any long-term problems.

Cracked skin isn’t just unsightly, it can be painful and even dangerous. Hands and feet come in contact with vast numbers of dangerous pathogens every day, and healthy skin is the only thing keeping them protected. When dry weather causes hands and feet to crack, natural skin products can help heal, soften, and prevent potentially dangerous infections.
